United Nations Mayor of Peace from Umuawa, Umuahia North in Abia state, Mr. Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu says his Foundation launched on the 27th of June during his birthday celebration is part of his “gift to humanity” where the less privileged will find succor.
Speaking to journalists at his country home, Igbokwe who dedicated his birthday to his family and “everyone who appreciates good things” explained that part of the essence of the foundation was to get accurate database to capture beneficiaries of his gestures so that they do not benefit twice while others are left behind.
Asked what informed the choice of Don Lulu Foundation, he said “that has been my lifestyle, the foundation has been within me for over a decade, but we had to structure it to reach out to as many people as we can, meet their needs, taking into cognizance the fact that when something is properly structured you can identify who has benefitted in your charity programme and who has not, in that, there is a proper database.”
The United Nations Mayor of Peace recalled some modest life-touching gestures brokered on his birthday to include the commissioning of three houses for indigent persons, laying of foundation for a block of classroom for Umuawa Central School, commissioning of the transformer Senator Theodore Orji donated to Umuawa people through the Don Lulu foundation.
Others include launching of a counterpart fund of 40 million naira that will be given to artisans, which according to him “is a revolving loan with no interest rates aimed at engaging the youths in meaningful ventures in order to curb unemployment and social vices that are prevalent in our society today.”
Igbokwe also hinted that the “Back to School” campaign of the foundation, which will provide school kits for children when they go back to school after the long vacation, will help parents who may have difficulties in equipping their children as they resume school for the next academic session.
